How to Seal Hydrostone Jars

Have you ever experienced the frustration of sealing a hydrostone candle jar with a concrete candle jar sealer, letting it fully cure, and then filling it with candle wax, only to end up with a waxident? Pun intended.

Well, you’re not alone, and I’m here to shed some light on the issue and provide a simple yet quick solution.

3 Reasons Concrete Sealers Don’t Properly Seal Hydrostone

1. Material Composition: Hydrostone is different from concrete, much like Chinese sesame noodles differ from Italian spaghetti. They may look similar, but they are significantly different.

2. Porosity: Hydrostone is more porous than concrete, making it challenging for sealants to penetrate and form a reliable barrier. Think of it like trying to clean up a mess with a piece of bread – not the easiest task.

3. Absorbency: Due to its high level of porosity, hydrostone can absorb more sealant, potentially requiring multiple coats. Picture it as trying to seal a concrete surface by applying the sealer more times than you care to do it – not an efficient process.

Now that we’ve explored why concrete sealers don’t quite cut it for hydrostone, let’s move on to the solution.

Earth Safe Finishes Hydro Dip Sealer

Say hello to Earth Safe Finishes Hydro Dip Sealer, the ultimate solution designed specifically for hydrostone. This product is your go-to answer for sealing hydrostone, regardless of its porous nature. Hydro Dip makes the process easy and effective.

How to Use Hydro Dip Sealer in Three Simple Steps:

Step #1: Pour Hydro Dip into a container.

Step #2: Dip and roll your hydrostone vessel in the sealer, ensuring complete coverage.

Step #3: Let it soak for about 30 seconds, then lift it out, wipe off any excess, and allow it to dry.

To wipe off the excess sealer, you can use a lint-free rag, a sponge brush, or even a silicone squeegee. After just 10 minutes, check for any remaining drips, wipe the edges, and let it dry for 48 hours.

It’s as simple as that!

Hi Jai, I love your videos and have learned so much from you as I started my concrete candle business. I am using hydrostone and having a terrible time getting hyrdodip to seal. I have tried dipping, painting, applying 3 coats, extending the dry time and the wax is still coming through. Have you had any of these problems? Wondering if you have tried any other sealants? I appreciate any advice you have. Thanks!

Hi Suzanne, I have never had that problem at all. Unfortunately there are no other sealants for hydrostone candle jars. I suggest you call Nancy at ESF and see what is going on. When an isolated incident like this happens I immediately think speak to the owner. Let me know how it goes.
