How to Clean Your Silicone Molds

Let me guess, you need to clean your silicone molds but have no clue how. Don’t worry! I’ve got you covered.

Silicone molds are a valuable tool for creating unique crafts and other creations, but they can be expensive to replace. With proper care, however, they can last for many years. In this blog post, we’ll discuss how to clean your silicone molds, when to clean them, how to store them, and what to avoid.

When you first receive your silicone mold, it’s important to give it a quick cleaning to remove any oily deposits or debris left over from the manufacturer. Dilute dish soap with water and use a lint-free towel to dry it thoroughly. Be sure to get into the crevices to avoid water deposits.

After creating your concrete jar, clean your silicone molds right away to avoid anything sticking to it and becoming permanent. Fill a sink with lukewarm water and dish soap, and let it soak for a few minutes to loosen up any residual cement, pigment, or paint. Run your fingers around the mold to remove any remaining residue, and use a non-abrasive sponge for a more thorough cleaning if necessary. Avoid using scouring pads or brillo pads, which can scratch and ruin your mold. If there is still residue or colorant, use rubbing alcohol diluted with water sparingly.

Be sure to wear gloves and a mask, as repeated high exposure to chemicals like rubbing alcohol can cause skin irritation, nose and throat irritation, headache, and more. Once you are satisfied with the cleaning, use soapy water to remove any leftover alcohol, and dry the mold carefully. Avoid twisting or squeezing it, and dry it thoroughly inside and out to prevent mold growth.

Store your mold upright in a cool, dry place at 60-75 degrees Fahrenheit, and avoid stacking or laying them down, as this can warp the mold and change the shape of your creation. By following these simple steps, you can keep your silicone mold in great shape for many years to come.
