5 Reasons You Must Seal Concrete Candle Jars

Candles are one of the most versatile home décor items that people can buy for their home. They can be used for anything from creating a cozy ambiance to adding a touch of elegance to a room. However, many concrete candle makers are unaware of the importance of why you must seal concrete candle jars when they first start learning the craft. Here are 5 reasons you need to start sealing your concrete or else your customers will not be repeat buyers.

Protects the Concrete Candle Jar

Protecting your concrete candle jar should be an obvious reason but more times than not I see people asking others in FB groups if one must seal their concrete creations. The answer is always yes and here is the reason why. Concrete is a porous material that can absorb moisture and oils from the candle wax. If you were to see concrete under a microscope you would see that it looks like a sponge. When you seal concrete candle jars you protect them from contents seeping out as well as from anything penetrating back in.

Prevents Staining

From what we talked about above, unsealed concrete can easily become stained from candle wax, oils, and fragrance because contents can seep out. However, by sealing your concrete candle jars, you will prevent stains from people touching them or handling them when making a decision wether or not to make a purchase. Have you ever seen a child see something they just have to touch. I have 2 kids and I can’t think of a time they asked if they could touch something. They just touched it and 99 out of 100 times their hands were pretty dirty. Sealing your concrete candle jars adds another level of protection by preventing stains.

Adds Shine or Sheen

Most concrete sealants add a touch of shine or sheen to the concrete after it has cured. That added appeal enhances its overall appearance for some. This is especially important if you’re using the jar as a decorative item in your home. Don’t worry if you are looking for a more raw look then you can purchase certain sealers that still prevent staining as well as adds protection but maintains the rawness of concrete.

Increases Durability

Sealing your concrete candle jar will make it more durable and resistant to damage. This is especially important if you plan on using the jar for a long time or if it will be moved frequently. In addition you will protect it from cracking which is a common issue with unsealed concrete. Remember concrete is porous and by sealing it you add a layer of protection which increases its longevity and durability.

Protection from the Sun

UV rays from the sun can cause concrete to fade, crack, or yellow over time, which can negatively impact the appearance of your candle jar. Additionally, exposure to UV rays can cause concrete to become brittle and more likely to break, which can make your candle jar less durable. By sealing your concrete candle jar, you are creating a barrier that protects the concrete from the damaging effects of UV rays. This can help to maintain the color and integrity of the concrete over time, so that your candle jar continues to look great and last longer.
