Cement vs Concrete for Candle Jars: The Real Difference

Cement vs concrete are two words that are often used interchangeably, but they actually refer to different materials. Cement is a fine powder made from a combination of clay, limestone, and other materials, while concrete is a composite material made up of cement, water, and aggregates such as sand, gravel, or crushed stone.

Cement is a binding agent that helps to hold materials together. When mixed with water, it creates a paste that can be used to bind other materials such as sand or gravel. However, cement alone is not strong enough to be used for concrete candle jars. To create concrete, cement is mixed with water and aggregates to create a composite material that is much stronger and more durable.

When creating concrete, the quality of the aggregates used can have a significant impact on the strength and durability of the finished product. The size and shape of the aggregates can affect the workability of the mixture and the final texture of the finished product.

The process of creating concrete involves several steps. First, the cement, water, and aggregates are mixed together to create a wet mixture. This mixture is then poured into a mold or form and allowed to dry and harden. As the cement hydrates, it binds the aggregates together, creating a solid mass. Cement All is made up of CSA cement, silica sand and proprietary ingredients. Notice how cement is one of the ingredients of Cement All.

But why is knowing the difference between cement vs concrete important to know for making concrete candle jars? Well, let’s say you don’t have access to Cement All, which is a popular brand of rapid-setting cement, and you want to make your own concrete mixture. If you see a bag of cement, you’re actually only looking at one ingredient of concrete and nothing else. Unless you buy sand, rock, or gravel to mix with the cement and water, you won’t be able to make a concrete candle jar.

Interestingly, Cement All is made up of CSA cement, silica sand and proprietary ingredients. When mixed with water the ingredients form a solid structure called concrete. Notice how cement is only one of the ingredients of Cement All and nothing more.
